Coreform wins grant to develop isogeometric analysis for biomedical applications

OREM, UTAH — Coreform LLC, developer of next-generation computer-aided engineering software, has been awarded a Department of Energy grant to improve engineering simulation for biomedical devices.

Coreform, a leading provider of commercial-grade software solutions for engineering and scientific simulation, announces its recent receipt of a highly competitive Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the United States Department of Energy (DOE). This grant will support an innovative project aimed at addressing key limitations in existing methods for the simulation of biomedical devices.

“Near-real-time simulation of personalized biomedical devices could have a huge impact on patient outcomes,” says Coreform Chief Strategy Offi cer Matthew Sederberg, “but current technology is incapable of providing simulation results that quickly.”

As younger patients increasingly use implantable medical devices, medical device companies need to predict more accurately how they will behave. Biomedical engineering and analysis are difficult due to the complexity of the systems that must be modeled and the materials that must be simulated.

In this project, Coreform will work closely with experts in the medical device space to mature its Coreform Flex solver to apply to biomedical applications. With this exploratory grant, Coreform will begin to address the need for faster biomedical simulation During Phase I, Coreform will focus on improving the speed of its simulations by developing new preconditioning techniques leveraging DOE-funded MFEM. This will enable initial workflow testing for innovative medical applications.

“We hope Coreform can be part of the personalized health care revolution by making reliable simulation fast and accessible to non-experts,” says Gregory Vernon, Director of Engineering. “This grant from the DOE will help us develop our technology for biomedical use.”
