Vortex Studio 2019c features integration with Unreal Engine and industry-leading vessel simulation capabilities from MARIN, and more.
Montreal, QC, December 16, 2019 — CM Labs Simulations, Inc. today announced the availability of Vortex Studio 2019c. This update to the industry’s leading suite of real-time simulation and visualization software makes it easy for users to connect to Epic Games’ Unreal Engine for high-quality simulator development. Vortex Studio users can now also leverage high-fidelity vessel simulation capabilities from Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) for enhanced seakeeping and maneuvering behavior of ships in varied sea states.
“Simulation involves multi-faceted workflows,” said Lisa Barbieri, CM Labs’ Vice President of Marketing and Customer Experience. “With new ways for users to embed Vortex Studio into the tools they use every day, 2019c revolutionizes how powerful their simulation applications can be.”
This makes for a powerful, interoperable toolkit ideal for those integrators and design teams looking to develop enhanced simulations for applications such as virtual prototyping, driver-in-the-loop testing, operator training, and simulation-based training of AI.
Vortex Studio 2019c also features integration with the simulation capabilities developed by CM Labs’ maritime research partner, MARIN. With Vortex Studio 2019c, it is now possible to combine best-of-class validated vessel hydrodynamics with multi-body mechanical and cable simulation.
Users can create models in MARIN’s XMF Runtime Interface (XRI) and run those hydrodynamics models in real time directly in Vortex Studio—fully connected with the advanced multi-body dynamics offered by CM Labs’ software. Applications that will benefit from this integration include offshore lifting, pile installation, towing, anchor handling, mooring, maneuvering, as well as other complex operations at sea.
In addition, Vortex Studio 2019c includes a new Console Editor feature. This collection of tools can be used to build custom simulator interfaces, including interactive menus, and custom control pages. Users can design pages that control the weather, set the time of day, emulate a complete human-machine interface, or add a database to record and report key simulation metrics.
“A goal at CM Labs is to make simulation easier by providing out-of-the-box integrations with best-of-class tools,” explains Arnold Free, CM Labs’ Chief Innovation Officer. “By combining the right tools for your project and making the workflow and integration easy for simulation engineers, it means you focus on solving challenges and not wasting time managing disconnected tools.”
