Webinar Series on AI/ML for Product Optimization

Episode 2: Leveraging AI/ML to augment state-of-the-art design and simulation

April 3, 2025
11:00 AM (Eastern US)

Overview

In today’s rapidly evolving engineering landscape, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are revolutionizing product development and lifecycle processes— whether it be conceptual design, simulation, testing, or operations.  Integrating these innovations into trusted and comprehensive engineering software unveils opportunities for faster decision making, finding innovative and optimized designs, and improving user interaction with engineering software.

This webinar is the second in the series on “AI/ML in Design Optimization”. It will cover many compelling AI/ML-driven use cases and how they fit together in different scenarios: PLM, CAD, component and system level simulation and optimization, and physical test solutions. In addition to summarizing the use cases, specific software features available today for each will also be covered with accompanying demonstrations.

Dr. Justin Hodges has, over a relatively short span of time, already developed an impressive body of work on AI/ML applied to simulation and product design. His monograph, Approaching machine learning problems in computational fluid dynamics and computer aided engineering applications: A Monograph for Beginners, has been widely read and well received, and he continues to disseminate his practical application knowledge through various channels.

Presenter: Justin Hodges, Siemens Digital Industries Software

Justin is the senior AI/ML specialist at Siemens Digital Industries for Simulation and Test products. He sits in a product management role for the company’s portfolio of simulation software. Justin earned a bachelors, masters, and Ph. D in mechanical engineering from the University of Central Florida in Thermos-Fluids. Justin has been advancing his technical AI proficiency since his first professional AI experience in 2017, which led to a patented workflow incorporating CFD flow-field results, based on CT scans, into machine learning models. Incorporating information from clinical surveys, breathing measurements, and CFD results into a machine learning framework provides improved diagnosis of COPD.

Since then, Justin joined Siemens full time to apply AI/ML to a wide variety of simulation and test products across many industries (automotive, aerospace, marine, etc.). Justin’s focus has centered on efforts to augment the capabilities of engineering simulation using machine learning. He helps customers solve problems using machine learning, which adds value to their business and delivered products.
